SSL Exception on Android 2.2 devices preventing users from authenticating on mUzima

Context
Users require to enter a username and password (as well as a server URL, if this had not been previously entered) to use mUzima. mUzima however fails to authenticate on devices running Android 2.2 and fails with a "javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Not trusted server certificate" Exception when authenticating an OpenMRS instance using https://.
